Abstract
This study is intended to examine peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) and rTMS on nerve regeneration in SCI induced rats. To achieve this goal, this study selected 30 Sprague-Dawley rats for four weeks. The experiment groups were divided them into three groups, and assigned 10 rats to each group. The control group was a experimental control group; Experimental I group was a PNS application group after induced SCI; Experimental II group was a rTMS application group after induced SCI. Results from a rota-rod test conducted for behavioral function evaluation, tissue mrophological observation, and immunohistochemistric finding of BDNF expression were obtained. The rota-rod test showed that the outcome of each experimental group was significantly different compared with the control group. Significant changes occurred after 21 days. Especially, the experimental II group was most significantly different than the other group. In the immunohistochemistric finding, experimental I and II groups showed an increased BDNF expression in spinal cord at 28 days. These results throughout the four-weeks PNS and rTMS were applied to the SCI models were shown to have a positive influence in nerve regeneration according to the motor function test and histopathologic data.
